Photography is all about using light to create works of art. To offer helpful tips and tricks regarding senior photography, I have created the ultimate guide to help you choose the best time of the day to take pictures outside. There is a lot that you need to consider to capture the perfect picture; here we go…
Sunrise and Sunset
Considered to be the magic hours for flattering photography light, the golden hours of just after sunrise and just before sunset are hands down the best times to take pictures of people outside. It is during these hours that you will have the light refracted through the atmosphere and get a naturally defused result with the sunlight. Everyone looks great in this kind of light. Magic indeed!
Twilight
Another great time for outdoor photography is during twilight. It is the period that lasts about 30 to 40 minutes before the sun rises or after it sets. It is also known as the blue hour (even though it rarely lasts a full hour). It is a truly magical time that offers a fantasy look if you are doing landscape city photography. The lights are on in the buildings and roadways, but the sky has a touch of hue as well, so you can get the best of all worlds. Use a tripod on this one and get ready to use a long shutter speed to capture all the light needed for a proper exposure. The photos look vibrant and dreamy.
Midday Light
Lastly, midday light is the least ideal time for taking pictures outside, but it can be done if you know what to look for. The thing about midday light is that it is harsh, creates sharp shadows, and causes squinty faces. Challenge indeed. Try to avoid this time of the day if you can help it.
Now get out there and create some art!
