High School senior photoshoots are a fantastic way to commemorate a milestone year in a teenager’s life. They are not only meaningful, but they can be considered a rite of passage.
Here are some tips to help you get photo-ready:
1. Don’t Worrying About Braces on Your Teeth
Wear can your braces with pride. They are a part of your high school self. With that said, I totally understand how some folks just don’t want them in their senior pictures. If that is you, simply schedule your photoshoot for after they are removed. Easy-peasy.
2. Avoid a Tan
Here is the truth, a fake tan can look, well, fake in pictures. Over tanning naturally can produce bad results as well. Having a natural glow in your skin’s hue, and not over doing the tanning, generates gorgeous pictures. If you are not sure, it is best that you avoid tanning altogether.
3. Avoid Glasses & Glare
If you wear glasses, you should opt for contacts on the day of your senior photoshoot. Yes, there are ways to properly photograph a person with glasses on, but you’re your approved photo spots outside just got dramatically reduced. It is challenging to photograph someone in glasses and not have a glare of some sort. The glare in next to impossible to edit out of the image. The other option is that you can simply take off your glasses for the senior photoshoot.
4. Make Your Hands Presentable
This is an easy one to overlook, but you will want to double check that your hands and nails look photo-ready. This means that you should get your nails painted or manicured. Try to wait until the day before your photoshoot so you don’t have any color chipping to deal with on your nails.
5. Practice Your Facial Expressions
A great senior photoshoot tip that you should follow is to rehearse your facial expressions in the mirror. See what kind of smiles look best on you. Practice a cute head tilt to see what angels are most flattering. Try to remember what these expressions feel like you so you can use them with confidence during your photoshoot.
6. Try Different Poses
I will teach you everything that you need to know about photoshoot posing, but you may want to get a head start. Look at the internet for inspiration and practice the poses that you like in front of the mirror. See what is you and what maybe isn’t you.
7. Use Props
Props should be used to personalize your pictures. Consider bringing musical instruments, a sports jersey, or hobby items along for your senior photoshoot. Anything that is personal and a great part of your senior year is an excellent choice.
8. Bring Someone Along
I always encourage moms to join along in the photoshoot journey. Moms are great at being their teenager’s personal cheerleader, giving photoshoot ideas, and helping with outfit changes. If you want in invite others along as well, go for it!
9. Get Comfortable with Your Photographer
You want to work with a photographer who is fun and will help you feel comfortable in front of the camera. That is where the magic happens… the more you can be yourself, the better the pictures will be. I got you!
10. Schedule Your Photoshoot Now so You Get the Day That Works for You
Lastly, senior year is a busy one! You have a lot going on that will have a specific place in your calendar. Schedule your senior photoshoot now so you can reserve a date that works best for you and your busy world.
