Gone are the days when you had to look overtly masculine to make it in corporate America. Many companies are embracing the rise of female power. And being feminine is now being seen as a strength in most industries. That brings us to today's topic - being feminine in your corporate photographs.
If you've ever gone through a company's leadership section and viewed the images of their female and male executives, you'll notice that they all appear homogeneous. What can seem like equality can be stifling to the modern-day woman who doesn't need to be defined by a more masculine work environment.
Instead, if you're looking to break the mold, you can start by changing the way you look in your corporate headshot. To help you get started here are some excellent tips to make your headshot more feminine.
How To Show Off Your Feminine Side In Corporate Headshots
1// Wear Feminine Colors
Gray, blue and black are often worn in corporate pictures. If you've been given a dress code, of course, you don't want to rock the boat, so instead of wearing dark grays or navy blue opt for softer more feminine hues. If you haven't been given any clear guidelines wear colors that compliment your appearance, and will be appealing on camera. Colors like pastel pinks, lighter blues and even off-white.
2// Smile
The generic corporate pose is to not smile and look stern and focused. The pictures can become very gloomy. But, there are no rules that say you can't smile.
So, to bring out your more feminine and personable side – smile. You can always practice your smile in the mirror so it appears more natural if you’re not comfortable smiling in front of the camera.
3// Accessorize
In the workplace, accessories should never be gaudy or overstated, and the same rule applies to your corporate headshot. But, you don't have to leave accessories out completely, you can accessorize with a simple necklace and earring set, and wear your hair so that both are visible.
4// Accentuate with Make-Up
There are days when you're just dying to put on makeup, and there's no better excuse to do this than to take time to do your makeup for your headshot. There are so many services to get your hair and makeup done on the go. If you really want to, you could hire a makeup artist to do your makeup the morning the pictures will be taken.
5// Wear More Feminine Attire
Do you need to wear a pantsuit or a generic shirt? If that's your style then by all means do, but your clothes are also an excellent way to bring out your feminine side.
Although most headshots will be taken from the shoulders and in fewer cases waist up, you can still dress in more feminine attire.
For example, instead of wearing the generic shirt, switch it up with a dress with a winged ruffle or cap sleeve, a feminine blouse or a cardigan. Whatever you wear for your corporate headshot should be indicative of what you wear to the office daily, unless the occasion calls for a smarter dress code.
